Somewhere is a song from the 1957 Broadway musical West Side Story that was made into a movie. The music is composed by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. This is Barbara's version. She is considered by most people in the music industry to have the greatest female voice of all time.

The guitar work you enjoyed at the start was by the late wonderful Henry McCulloch, the only Irish man to play that festival. He went on to play in the original lineup of Paul McCartney and Wings. I had the privilege of playing support to him and jamming with him a few times in his later years.

I saw her on Broadway in "Funny Girl". Her voice was beautiful and impressive then too. She was probably 23 or so.

This version of VH is amazing live, too. Judgement Day, Aftershock, Won't Get Fooled Again, Feelin', There's Only One Way to Rock (1988 in Tokyo with an ear-melting guitar duel live on stage), etc. showcase their live vocals very well.

By the way, she had one official singing lesson in her life. It lasted 15 minutes. Everything else is total instinct, raw talent, acting, intelligence and singing and recording songs that are meaningful to her.

I saw the Eagles at the Activity Center at Arizona State University in 1977 during the "Hotel California" Tour. I was the promotions officer for the Associated Students so I helped book Frank Zappa, Bob Dylan, the Doobie Brothers, the Eagles, the Grateful Dead, and other bands that year. I got to get stage passes. It was a pretty cool job.
